FULL OF BEANS: Heinz to stay in Spanish stores after Brexit transition ends – Olive Press News Spain

BAKED Beans have long been a staple of the great English breakfast and have been served to UK diners since 1901.

But expats began to fear losing the popular product after the Brexit transition period ends on December 31 2020.

Given that no trade deal has yet been agreed with the EU, many food brands are uncertain of how the bureaucratic break up might effect the weekly shop.

“We have absolutely no information on how the end of the transition period is likely to affect our ability to supply customers within the EU, but we very much hope that our current trading arrangements will be able to continue unimpeded,” Iceland’s director of corporate affairs, Keith Hann, told the Olive Press.

But lovers of beans on toast can now rest easy as Heinz has told the Olive Press they will remain in Spain in 2021.

“Heinz Beanz fans need not worry. We have plans in place to supply our famous Heinz varieties to meet consumer demand in Europe after the Brexit transition period ends,” said Heinz director of government affairs, Nigel Dickie.

Dickie was keen to reassure expats that a new system should not up the cost of the kitchen cupboard staple: “While prices are always determined by retailers we remain committed to offering great value for money,” he said.
